Happy New Year/Year in review

2016 has been a year full of events. We upgraded to a better VPS host for our TS server (that has had an uptime for over half a year) and switched web hosts for our website. A world bot was created for our TS (credit to Tghost.) A tracker was developed and placed on the homepage of this website (credit to Win2tank.) Our FC joined an alliance, only to leave that alliance a short while later (we’re very happy that we got out of it.) A little while later we joined a far better alliance. An FC attempted to vanquish our FC over some drama, only to fail miserably. We promoted two people to gold star rank.
We expect to continue to grow stronger in 2017 and continue to nurturer our relationship and work with our new Warbands friends. We wish you a happy remainder of the Christmas celebration and a happy New Year.

Website fully functional again

The website on our normal host is functioning again.  We never got a response from our support ticket, but as of right now all is well.

Website: Contingentcy plan

Around Sunday afternoon our normal webhost started acting up and our website would not load.  It's now Monday evening and still no response from our normal webhost.

I've put the partial website up on a backup host.  Please note that right now only the homepage will work. None of the other website features are functional such as our forums.

I shall update when our website is fully functional again.

About our current alliance status

On November 24th, we were informed by other FC leaders that the Requiem, Blu3monsters, Synergy, Masterbands alliance has been dissolved. In all honesty, the alliance had a rough start and was plagued with disagreements. We wish Requiem, Blue3monsters, and Synergy the best.

This is not the first time in the history of Masterbands that an alliance that we were in fell apart. We survived the breakup of WarbandGroup (WBG), the alliance that existed between us and WbsM8, and now this. Alliances have come and gone, but we have thrived in the past and will continue to thrive in the future!

We hope everybody had a Happy Thanksgiving!

Website addition: Tracker

Ebu gets the gold

Today after the 2 p.m. US eastern wave, Ebu was promoted to gold.  This is a major promotion especially considering the fact that the last time somebody was promoted to gold star was well over year ago. The Masterbands leadership thanks Ebu for his dedication to the fc and looks forward to his continued support of our FC.


Be sure to congratulate Ebu when you see him on :)

You can now change your password on the forums without the need to get ahold of me

I set up an email account for the forums which is required in order for users to be able to reset their own passwords (when a user requests a password change, the forums sends an email with a link to reset the user's password.)  Previously, when someone needed their password reset I had to manually change it for them.

DNS Hosting service migration complete

I didn't plan to have to do this today. 

A little backstory:
Our domain registrar (domain.com) is the business that we used to register our domain (masterbands.us) With many domain registrars, if you register a domain with a particular registrar, they often offer DNS hosting for free (they will let you store your DNS records on their domain servers.)  When Fawndel downgraded our service to basic (we stopped using them to host our website) I found that on domain.com the option to edit our DNS records disappeared. Puzzled, I submitted a support ticket and this is what I got in response:

Hello,

Thank you for contacting Support.

Your account masterbandsus is downgraded to domain parking account. We do not provide DNS tool for free in domain parking account. This is the reason you are unable to see the DNS tool in Domain central. You can purchase it for just $3.95 per month so that you can update DNS records. If you wish to purchase it then please provide us the authorization to charge your credit card.

If you can not purchase it, then please provide us the DNS records that you wish to update so that we will update it for you.

That's right, they want us to fork over about $4 USD a month to be able to easily update our DNS records using their DNS servers.  Technically speaking they did offer DNS hosting for free but you have to manually contact them everytime you need to edit you records.

Forget that, I found that namecheap.com offers free DNS hosting, even if you have not registered any domains with them, so guess who we are using now for DNS hosting?

A thumps up to namecheap.com and multiple thumbs down to domain.com

I could have set up our own DNS server to manage our DNS records, but didn't as namecheap's free DNS hosting was very quick and easy.

Web host migration complete!
